Newborn Sessions
When to Book
I recommend arranging your session during your pregnancy, please feel free to contact me at any stage during your pregnancy to discuss and schedule the session. I will initially offer you a booking date based on your due date approximately 7 days after and once baby has arrived we will adjust the session date again to suit.
When to Photograph
We will aim to photograph your baby as early as you feel ready to schedule in the session. My recommendation is to aim for 7-14 days after birth. Smaller babies 5-6lb (12-14 days), while babies weighing 7lb+ will be better photographed 7-10 days. However, some people prefer photographs of slightly older babies and 'newborn' sessions can be up to 12 weeks of age. The younger the baby, the more likely for sleepy and relaxed sessions, however all babies are different.
What to Expect
My newborn sessions take up to 4 hours, this is not a process to be rushed in any way. I want to ensure you and your new baby have plenty of time to feed, change and settle to suit your needs.
Your new baby will be photographed alone, with yourself and siblings if applicable. I recognise Postpartum is a challenging time and you may not be feeling your best, so we can discuss your inclusion on an individual basis, there is no pressure but I guarantee you will always look back on these moments with happiness if you chose to be involved.
I am currently offering Newborn studio sessions, but I can also be fully mobile and visit you and your family in your own home if this is preferred. This can be discussed when you make your enquiry.
Please note that not all babies are sleepy and snuggly from the get go. I appreciate that some find the initial days and weeks harder than others. If for any reason we are not able to settle your baby within the first hour, we will reschedule for another date that suits you for no extra cost. The wellbeing of you and your baby is my priority.
What to Bring Along
Anything you would normally put in your nappy bag e.g. Nappies, dummies, formula, change of clothes etc.
Please feel free to bring along any personal items which you may wish to be photographed e.g. named blankets, comforters, knitted outfits etc.
I have wraps for the babies but I do not provide props of any kind and request you bring your own personal items, if required.
Birth Photography
If you are interested in having a photographer at your birth, either at home or a medical setting, please make an enquiry using the contact form so we can discuss this further.
